Calling all first time parents-to-be. . .

What's the BIGGEST difference between new parents who feel confident and prepared...

...and those who struggle during the first three months after their baby arrives?

"There's no where else you can find all this information in one place"

Every Sunday we would cast our computer to the TV and view at least one section. It was nice to look forward to this bonding time while soaking up all the new info for our first little one on the way. There’s no where else you can find all this information in one place. Plus, Valerie is right there with you along the way.

Lauren & Patrick

The adjustment period after the baby arrives
is challenging for a lot of new parents.

What can make that time easier?

It's not a super fancy bassinet. . . although those are nice!

It's not a meal service your girlfriends gifted you so you don't have to cook. . . but that sounds amazing!

It's not a baby who sleeps through the night from day one. . . but that sounds dreamy!

In my 8 years as a Postpartum Doula I have seen that fourth trimester (the first 3 months after baby arrives) go so smoothly for some new families and I have seen others struggle as they adjust to life with a newborn.

The biggest difference I have seen is this. . .

When both new parents feel comfortable caring for and soothing a tiny human,
middle of the night meltdowns are reduced by 60%

*Okay, fine...it's not a real statistic but I'm telling you it makes a huge difference!

When both you, AND YOUR PARTNER, feel comfortable caring for your baby:

"It gave my husband the basics to know. . . it was a nerve calmer for him!"

It gave my husband the basics to know as he’s never been a part of taking care of a baby. It was a nerve calmer for him! For me, the course helped refresh my memory from all the babysitting classes I took growing up... though you pay A LOT more attention when you’re learning for your own child. We’ve referred back to videos multiple times since we’ve been home with our baby boy!

Bobbi & Ben

But where does this confidence and knowledge come from?

In the homes of the families I have worked with
as a Postpartum Doula & Lactation Counselor that
confidence has come when I . . .

Stand next to them and talk through how to give a sponge bath

Explain the importance of sleep safety and how to reduce the risk of SIDS

Show them soothing techniques based on cues their baby is giving when she's crying

Walk them through day-to-day tasks like changing diapers and dressing their baby.

Help them understand if baby is getting enough to eat since mom's milk doesn't come in for 3-5 days after birth

Give them a judgement free place to ask questions

Having the support of a Postpartum Doula can help tremendously but I know that 1:1 care isn't in the budget for everyone.

So, I will be your Virtual Doula!

We'll Cover It All So Don't Worry If You Feel Like. . .

You want to breastfeed but you watched your BFF eat all the lactation cookies she could find and still couldn't produce enough!

The thought of bathing a newborn feels a bit like juggling a goldfish and you'd like to have someone actually show you how!

Humans have been doing this since the beginning of time so you're just supposed to know how to soothe your crying baby. . . right?!?

You know you can't sleep train a newborn but there's got to be some way to let him know we don't hang out at midnight outside the belly!

MEET YOUR DOULA:

Hi, I'm Valerie!

I've spent 8 years showing hundreds of parents what the heck to do with their squirmy little newborns.

As a Certified Postpartum Doula, Certified Lactation Counselor, and mom of 3 (including identical twin boys)...

I’ve seen again and again how much support new parents need the first 12 weeks after they meet their baby.

But no matter how overjoyed you are to become a parent, no matter how perfect and beautiful and sweet your new baby is... once you get home–you realize you now have to sustain this beautiful little life and it won’t stop screaming at you, and you haven’t slept in 3 days, and everything hurts, and you can’t remember your last shower...

Being a postpartum doula means I’m the one who gets the call at 9 pm on the second night home. I’m the one who stands on the doorstep at 10 pm staring into a crying parent’s (and crying baby’s) exhausted eyes.

And I’m the one who has the amazing privilege of helping those parents adjust to their new family so that they can approach the newborn stage with as much calm confidence as possible.

Every lesson is broken down into easy-to-digest videos, with printable resources so you can find the information you need when you need it.

BREASTFEEDING MASTERCLASS

If you are hoping to breastfeed but have heard stories about how painful it is or you're worried that your body won't make enough milk this is the masterclass for you!

I will take the fear and confusion out of breastfeeding for you AND your partner (yes you will want to watch this together).  I'll also be honest with you because I think too many breastfeeding classes sugar-coat the information instead of giving it to you straight (that was the case with the hospital breastfeeding class I went to).

In this Masterclass we'll cover:

  • Feeding cues: We'll go deep on this because I want to be sure you don't miss them.  This is how your body gets the message to make milk when your baby needs it!
  • How to know if your baby is getting enough to eat: I will give you exact numbers to monitor to ensure your baby is getting the nutrients he needs.
  • Positions for breastfeeding: You might find that it's more comfortable to feed your baby different ways on different sides.  I'll tell you the options and show you what they look like.
  • How long a feeding should last: Have you heard stories of new moms who spent hours feeding their baby? Is this what you should expect? We'll talk about it (but no, that's not the norm).
  • Pumping & milk storage: It's important that your breastmilk is handled safely so we'll be sure and cover this!

CARING & SOOTHING YOUR BABY

Before you know it you'll be able to change a diaper with your eyes closed and give your baby a bath without getting soap in her eyes. Let me get you to that seasoned parent place a little faster with some tips and tricks I've learned through the years!

And what about ALL.THE.CRYING? Until you really get to know your baby you're going to be playing detective when she's crying.  But fear not inspector, I will tell you what to be looking for to understand why your baby is crying (because believe it or not she's giving you clues during that adorable meltdown).  I'll also let know what you can do to soothe her so you can get back to the cute little smiles.

We'll also talk about:

  • Feeding the baby
  • Burping the baby
  • When to call the doctor
  • How to dress the baby
  • And all the basics like changing diapers and swaddling

BABY SAFETY

While I truly hope you never need any of these strategies, the safety lessons taught in this chapter could save your child’s life. In an emergency, there may not always be time to Google, so having an understanding of what you need to do to help your baby in the moment is essential.

You’ll learn:

Infant CPR*

Taught by a Red Cross CPR instructor, you’ll learn how to perform life-saving CPR on your infant (birth to 1-year-old)

* this is the exact information taught in a certification class, but this training does not qualify as certification

Infant Choking
It’s very likely that, at some point, your infant will choke on their food. More often than not, you can help them dislodge that food on their own, but there may be times where they need more assistance.

You’ll learn how to perform the Heimlich maneuver on your infant (hint: it’s nothing like you see in the movies) so you can help clear their airway if they’re in trouble.

Reducing the Risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)
In this lesson, you’ll learn the evidence-based suggestions for your baby’s first year of life to significantly decrease the risk of SIDS. You’ll learn what methods are backed by research, and what might have changed since you were a kid.

The truth is, we’ve learned a lot about SIDS over the years, and your well-intended mother might not have the most up-to-date safety information for your newborn.

With this information, you’ll have all the resources you need to keep your baby safe and your fear at bay.

PREPARING FOR THE POSTPARTUM PERIOD

As new parents, the first few months are the time when you and your baby first get to know each other. It’s exciting, challenging, exhausting, and beautiful...all at once. You’re learning what it means to become a parent, your baby is learning what it means to live outside of the womb, and you’re doing it all while you’re more exhausted than you’ve ever been.

Feeling overwhelmed is completely normal.

Never again will you have a time as challenging and sweet as the first 12 weeks. And the more prepared you are for those first weeks, the more you can sit back and focus on snuggling and loving on the newest member of your family.

In this chapter, you’ll learn what you can do while you wait to make your first few months go as smoothly as possible.

You’ll learn:

  • How to find a pediatrician who will be a valuable part of your village!
  • Setting up stations around the house (just like I do for my clients).
  • What you can do now so nothing falls through the cracks in that sleep-deprived first month!

BABY GEAR: WHAT YOU NEED (AND WHAT YOU DEFINITELY DON'T)

First and foremost, my hope with this section is to SAVE you money 💸! There is a ridiculous amount of baby gear on the market and as a first time parent you can't be expected to know what you'll need.

And while your best friend has the list of “everything you need that was a life-saver for her kid,” and Pinterest is filled with long and expensive lists…

The truth is, every baby is different.

There are some items that are almost a necessity, things that are hard to live without.  Then there are other things that you might want depending on your lifestyle, where you live and how much space you have.

After that, it’s just a matter of your preference and budget!

We’ll go over:

  • Some things to consider before you register or shop for your baby

  • When, where, and what to register or shop for

  • What these products are and why you need them (or why you don't)

You'll Get These Bonuses So You Have The Resources
You Need During The Postpartum Period!

BONUS #1: MEMBERS ONLY FACEBOOK GROUP

Our Members Only Facebook Group is a safe place for you to ask those oddly specific questions, share those exhaustion-fuelled moments, and connect with other parents in the exact same stage of life.

And the best part is...you get to hang out with me in there too! Which means, you’ll get real-time advice and answers from a veteran postpartum doula. I’ve seen it all, so if there’s something you need, we can address it together!

BONUS #2: UNDERSTANDING NEWBORN SLEEP

You can’t sleep train a newborn, but there are things you can do to set all of you up for nighttime success.

In this mini-workshop you’ll learn:

  • What you can do from day one to help your new little peanut understand that when he/she wakes up in the middle of the night it is NOT hang out time!
  • Understanding why the baby is waking.
  • Answers to the questions I'm most often asked about sleep!

BONUS #3: MUST-HAVE TOOLKIT

Because sometimes you just need a grab ‘n go list, you’ll also receive:

  • 30 Day Must-Have List: If you're in a situation where you're just trying to buy the absolute basics!
  • Baby Gear Must-Haves and Maybes List: This is where I've taken those big 'ole registry checklist and whittled it down to what you will actually be glad you have without wasting money on a bunch of stuff you won't use.
  • Hospital Bag Checklist: When it's time to pack your hospital bag you don't need to search pinterest for a list or ask your girlfriends, I've got it all taken care of in this one-page printable!
  • Pediatrician Q&A: Your BFF might love her pediatrician but that doesn't mean you will. Yes, I think you should start with the recommendations of others but you need to meet the doctor face-to-face before your baby arrives. Your pediatrician is an important part of your village and it's essential that you feel comfortable with him/her. But I understand that you might feel a bit clueless as you figure out what questions to ask when you meet, I've got you covered!

"The soothing techniques were so important and we used them a lot!"

As first time parents we had so many questions about how to care for our baby in those first weeks home. At the hospital we had nurses to help and ask questions and at home it was all on us. This course gave us the confidence we needed to be the best parents we could even with sleep deprivation and a lot of dirty diapers!

Some Questions Academy Members Have Asked Before Joining. . .

Why you deserve to enjoy the newborn stage...

If you've gotten this far you're likely on the fence.  I know that there are a lot of expenses as you prepare for your baby and as you're figuring out how to allocate your baby budget I want to encourage you to invest in the postpartum period.

By understanding what to expect and how to handle different situations you and your partner will be more confident and prepared and, at the risk of sounding like a mastercard commercial. . . this is priceless.

As you encounter different situations I want you to have a place to ask questions, without judgement.  If I don't already have the answer inside the Academy I will find a reputable source for you.

I don't want you to spend the first weeks of your baby's life searching the internet for answers and then trying to figure out if the source is reputable.

That's why I have packaged this program together to support new parents where they are, navigating the unknown and preparing for the greatest blessing of their lives.

It truly is an honor to walk alongside you as you welcome your baby and I hope to see you in the Facebook group!

All the best,
